About Me

Hi, I’m Sherry, founder of Arkfeld Academy.

I didnโ€™t build a business in my 20s. I didnโ€™t โ€œcrush itโ€ online right out of the gate. I was just like a lot of peopleโ€ฆ working, doing what I thought I was supposed to do, and feeling pretty stuck.

At some point, I realized I didnโ€™t want to keep doing that for the next 10, 15, 20 years.

I wanted more freedom. More control over my time. And honestly, just more options.

How I Got Here

I started figuring out how to make money online later in life. I actually got fired from my job and really didn’t want to go back to a corporate environment where I was counting down the days until my next vacation.

I saw people online who were making money while traveling full-time and realized I could do that, too.

So I started trying different things.

First, I taught English online. That was fun for a while, but the hours were killing me. Most of the students are in China, and I’m in California, so the time difference meant working overnight, or at least really late at night and early in the morning.

It was also really hard for me to be so perky all the time, especially at 4:00 a.m.

Teaching English is a really good way to work online. I did enjoy many of my students. It’s just not for me.

Then I tried transcription. Zero stars, do not recommend. It was a ton of work for hardly any money. Actually, it may not even be an option anymore with the prevalence of AI.

Finally, I discovered copywriting. That was the thing that changed everything. I took some really good classes and got published in a couple of magazines to build up my portfolio. And then I was able to get clients. Seriously life-changing.

I also discovered blogging and creating courses, which I like even better. Copywriting is great, and I still have my agency, but I prefer to interact with humans as little as possible.

So how am I making money now? I’ve got a few different income streams:

  • My blog – Siskiyou Adventures is a very niche travel blog focused on the county in Northern California where I grew up. It’s my second blog. I recently sold my first one for a decent amount, although it’s still bringing in money for me (I’m not going to tell them they’re still using my affiliate links!).
  • Digital products – I have a couple of different shops on Etsy where I sell things like Bingo cards, travel planners, and ebooks. I also make digital AI photos of people’s pets.
  • Courses – I love helping people figure out how to live a life of freedom, so that’s what my courses focus on. I watch people working jobs they hate while I’m over here in my sweats, working on my sofa with my dog next to me.

Why I Created Arkfeld Academy

When I was figuring all this out, most of the courses I found didnโ€™t feel like they were made for me.

Everything seemed geared toward people way younger, full of hype and big promises, or so vague it wasnโ€™t actually helpful.

I just wanted someone to tell me, in plain English, what’s available for a 50-something-year-old woman. I don’t want to work 80 hours a week. I don’t want to become an influencer or do stupid TikTok dances. I just want to work from wherever I want and earn enough to be comfortable.

Since I couldn’t find that, I decided to create it myself.

Just because I did all this the hard way doesn’t mean you need to, too!
